Clinical hypnotherapy is increasingly recognised as an evidence-informed therapeutic approach that can be integrated within psychotherapy for selected clinical presentations. In India, growing interest among psychologists, counsellors and mental health professionals has led to an increasing demand for structured, professionally delivered hypnotherapy training.
Clinical hypnotherapy is used alongside psychotherapy to support the treatment of anxiety disorders, trauma, unresolved grief, emotional regulation, chronic stress, behavioural change, and other conditions where implicit learning and emotional processing play an important role.
At Wellness Space, the programme is built upon an evidence-based psychotherapy framework that combines established hypnotherapy techniques with contemporary trauma research, memory reconsolidation, emotional regulation and psychotherapy.
The program is accredited by IMDHA (International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association), EARTh (Earth Association for Regression Therapy), and IPHM (International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine).
Training is led by Dr Gunjan Y Trivedi (PhD) and Riri G Trivedi (PhD), whose work includes peer-reviewed research on childhood trauma, heart rate variability, Complex PTSD (CPTSD), grief therapy and evidence-based psychotherapy.
Hypnotherapy is a structured therapeutic approach that uses focused attention, guided relaxation and therapeutic suggestion to facilitate psychological change. Rather than creating unconsciousness or loss of control, the hypnotic state is characterised by heightened concentration and reduced external distraction, allowing therapists to work with emotional memories, beliefs, behavioural patterns and implicit learning processes.
Modern hypnotherapy was placed on a clinical footing by Dr Milton Erickson in the 20th century and is now recognised by professional bodies including the American Psychological Association as a legitimate adjunct to psychotherapy. It is not stage hypnosis or mind control — the client is always conscious, in control, and able to reject any suggestion. Clinical applications include anxiety, post-traumatic stress, childhood emotional patterns, chronic pain, insomnia, and habits rooted in implicit conditioning.
Rather than teaching isolated hypnotic techniques, this program develops clinical reasoning, therapeutic communication, ethical decision-making and evidence-based practice. Participants learn how hypnotherapy integrates with psychotherapy rather than functioning as a standalone intervention. Throughout the program, participants learn to evaluate hypnotherapy techniques according to the available scientific evidence, integrating clinical expertise with the individual needs, values and goals of each client.
Most hypnotherapy training in India teaches techniques — scripts, inductions, deepeners — without the clinical reasoning that determines when and why to use them. This approach can produce technicians, not therapists.
Evidence-based hypnotherapy is different. It grounds every technique in peer-reviewed research, measurable outcomes, and client safety frameworks. At Wellness Space, we integrate hypnotherapy with three contemporary research streams: Memory Reconsolidation (RTM), which uses controlled re-exposure to permanently update traumatic memory networks; HeartMath and Heart Rate Variability (HRV) protocols, drawn from Dr Gunjan Y Trivedi’s PhD research on Bhramari Pranayama; and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) assessment, drawn from Dr Riri G Trivedi’s PhD on the link between childhood trauma and adult mental health in India.
The result is a program that produces practitioners who can integrate with allied health professionals, present credible case studies, and deliver outcomes that can be measured rather than merely described. The training also includes techniques based on the concept of the “Release Reframe Toolkit” and its practical implications. The “Release Reframe Toolkit” is designed to help resolve emotional blockages and transform limiting beliefs. It incorporates fundamental techniques such as inductions, deepeners, guided imagery, and anchors to facilitate effective therapeutic outcomes.
Relationship Dialogue is one of the structured clinical protocols taught during Module 2 – Hypnotherapy. Developed at Wellness Space and evaluated in a peer-reviewed clinical study published in the International Journal of Regression Therapy, it provides a structured approach to helping clients process unresolved grief, bereavement, relationship loss and emotional closure.
Participants learn both the theoretical foundations and the supervised clinical application of the protocol, together with assessment, ethical considerations and integration within evidence-based psychotherapy.
A few things distinguish this training from the wider hypnotherapy landscape in India:
Participants will explore the history of hypnosis, gain a solid understanding of what hypnotherapy is, and learn how it facilitates the mind-body connection to support profound transformation. The curriculum includes client management strategies the importance of ethics and enables participants to guide individuals through their healing processes effectively.
Yes. Hypnotherapy is a recognised therapeutic modality in India, practised by mental health professionals, integrative medicine practitioners, and certified hypnotherapists. There is no separate licensing requirement, but credible training from accredited institutions is essential for ethical practice.
No formal psychology degree is required. However, this programme is best suited for those with prior background or genuine commitment to clinical mental health work. Many participants are already mental health professionals, medical doctors, or allied health practitioners.
Traditional hypnotherapy often relies on scripts and techniques without clinical reasoning. Evidence-based hypnotherapy grounds every intervention in peer-reviewed research, measurable outcomes, and structured client assessment — closer in rigour to psychotherapy than to stage or entertainment hypnosis.
Memory Reconsolidation is a research-backed protocol that uses controlled re-exposure to update traumatic memory networks at the neurological level. Unlike traditional desensitisation, RTM aims for permanent change rather than suppression of symptoms.
Module 2 alone earns a Participation Certificate. Full Evidence-Based Psychotherapy Practitioner Certification is awarded after completing all six modules (225 hours total) and submitting module-specific case studies.
For Module 2, online training delivered live (not pre-recorded) is highly effective, particularly for the theoretical and observational components. Practical skills development happens through live demonstrations, supervised peer practice in breakout rooms, and ongoing mentorship — all of which translate well to online delivery.
Yes. Upon receiving your Participation Certificate (Module 2) or full Practitioner Certification (all six modules), you may practise hypnotherapy in India. The programme’s IMDHA, EARTh, and IPHM accreditations are recognised internationally.
Clinical hypnosis is the application of hypnotic techniques within medical or psychological treatment by a licensed clinician. Hypnotherapy is broader — a structured therapeutic approach using hypnosis, often delivered by trained therapists who may or may not hold a medical license. Both can be evidence-based.
Triple international accreditation, PhD-led faculty with peer-reviewed publications, integration into a comprehensive 225-hour psychotherapy programme, and a small-cohort model with supervised live practice. We focus on producing clinical practitioners, not technicians.
You receive a Participation Certificate and can either continue through Modules 3 to 6 toward full Practitioner Certification, or apply your Module 2 learning within your existing practice while you decide your path forward. To get practitioner certification, you can also work on your case studies and other deliverables (to be explained during the workshop)
